Some Monuments of the Chilean Patagonia

   Historical Museum Fuerte Bulnes

Located to 58 Kms. to the south of Punta Arenas. This historical monument began to give life at the end of the 16th century when the first attempt of the Spanish Wreath for populating the strategic zone of the Strait of Magallanes failed noisy, when dies because of the hunger almost the totality of the members of the colonizing expedition. The place remained deserted until 1843, when the government of the President Manuel Bulnes, alerted by the eager expansionism of the European powers, decided to take really(exactly) possession of the zone.

The place where Strong Bulnes is nowadays is the same where the Spanish settlers settled themselves three centuries before.



   Museum to the Shepherd in Punta Arenas

Public monument of material of granite located in the central bandejón of the Avenue Bulnes, shaped by 12 figures to natural scale, where one sees to a Shepherd, its horse, sheepdogs and sheep’s.

Representing to the shepherd walking afoot(by foot) supporting the inclement wind of the pampas (what its appreciates in the form of the blanket that leads to the shoulder and its hat they have been esculpidos). Its takes in one of his hands the reins of his horse and in other one a small whip to guide to hissheeps, which travel hereinafter-except(later on-except) the small one that goes more behind-.



   Museum to Hernando De Magallanes in Punta Arenas

Sculpture of bronze and of Base of concrete, inaugurated on December 16, 1920, where there is commemorated the navigator Hernando of Magellan, who was the one that discovered these beautiful lands; but simultaneously, in its four sides its appreciates an honouring to the aborigines who were living(inhabiting) the patagonia.

The measures of the monument are: 8 meters of diameter and a height of 9,5 meters giving an excellence to the center of the Plaza of Weapon.

The legend tells that if there kisses itself the finger of the Patagonian Indian, its will have a return assured the city.
