Flora and Fauna of Chilean Patagonia

THE FLORA
This place of the world, is cover in part by rocks and ice that generates an Intense vegetation, becoming of "Cold Tropic". Which gives place to Development of different types of vegetations, according to the place location.

Three species of trees exist that form the Patagonian forests these are: The Coigüe, the Ñirre and the Lenga, are the main exponents of the flora of the zone. Bushes as the Leñadura, the Matanegra, the Shipwright and the Cireluillo do of the region a place where can be found a various range of vegetables, being the main one the Coirón in the "Patagonian Steppe".

The Coicopihue (Philesia magellanica), a species with very gaudy flowers. Native of singular beauty of red petals, which Paradise from Port present in the south is found, in environments of forest, very seemed al copihue, national symbol.

 

THE FAUNA
When you observe the extensive variety of animals in the Patagonia, the beauty is done present in its majesty, to contemplate the beautiful and gaudy guanacos, condores, rheas, swans, caiquenes and caranchos, only by naming some.

   The Guanacos

The guanaco (of the quechua wanaku), scientific denomination Lama guanicoe, is an elegant, wild animal, of fine bones, with an approximate height of 1,06 meters and near 91 kilograms of weight. At the same as the flame, the guanaco is covered by a thick and double fur that protects it, that is even more scarce than that of the alpaca.

The guanaco is a good capable swimmer to cross from an island to another in places like Land of Fire. Are also very fast animals, but often are victims of their predators due to their enormous curiosity.



   El Puma

El puma (Felis concolor patagonica) es un animal de hábitos nocturnos. Vive en las proximidades de la cordillera, y en la zona de la estepa, en vecindad de barrancas o roquedales que le sirven de refugio durante el día. Gran caminador, puede hacer más de 40 km en una noche. Sus territorios de caza son inmensos (de 40 a 60 km2) y los marca a menudo con montoncitos de hojas, sobre los que orina repetidamente. Los mayores daños en las majadas los causa en la época en que la madre enseña a cazar a los cachorros. Es un animal tímido y huidizo, completamente inofensivo para el hombre.
