The name of the commune comes from Springhill (Hill Spring) that was first one of the accessions in the zone. The commune was created on December 30, 1927 and since then it has not suffered many variation both in its extension and in population, which has met diminished in the last years.
It is located in the north end of the Big island of Tierra del Fuego, on the banks of the Strait of Magellan. On the coast Philip emphasizes the Bay Hills, Bay, Top Catalina, End Orange, the First Narrowness and the Peninsula Mazia. There occupies part(report) of the extensive pampas fueguinas that spread to the north of the mountainous countries of San Sebastian and of the Cord Baquedano, between pampas and soft lomajes with glens, lagoons and many birds. It is a petroleum territory, with polyducts on the banks of the ways, ovens heaters, batteries, towers of perforation and other implements.
The commune shelters a scanty and spread population disperses in cattle stays as Ea. Philip, Ea. Tres Lagos and Ea. Sarita and in developments of petroliferous (oil) as(like) Flowing deposits, Chillán, Spring, Caulker, Bellavista, Catalina, Cullen and Hill Hat, the communal capital and petroleum terminals as Port Percy, Clarencia.
It is a place of obliged step of the vehicles that cross the Strait of Magellan, course to Future or towards San Sebastian, Big Rio and Ushuaia in Argentina. The step of the First Narrowness joins Top Spore in Tierra del Fuego with Thin Top in Magellan's Province, does not have any more than 5 km from width and presents low and sandy coasts.
